"We had tickets to see the VSO perform the music of Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone as we watched the movie. It had been quite a long time since we last been to one of these performances.
The Orpheum is a beautiful venue and we like seeing performances there. It has an old world charm and reminds us of a bygone era.
Before the performance we had a great dinner at Rogue. There was a very short lineup to enter then we found our seats. We were in the balcony near the back with the first 4 seats next to the aisle. There were many people already seated and it appeared to be sold out.
To enjoy the show we ordered 2 bags of popcorn, 1 bag of sour candy, 2 water & 1 7up. You can watch a movie without snacks!
The movie with the symphony was so much better and took it to another level. The musicians were excellent! The seats were cramped and both my wife and I have knee problems so at intermission we switched and she had the aisle seat. Our boys found it hard as well as they are 6’2” and 6’3”. We were happy to leave for our knees sake but overall really enjoyed the performance!"

Seating Guide for the Orpheum Theatre Vancouver
For those on a tighter budget, the back sections of the balcony still provide a good experience, especially for orchestral performances. Redditors suggest that even seats in the rear balcony offer a better acoustic experience than the back orchestra, particularly due to the overhang of the balcony itself affecting sound. When considering the orchestra level, seats in the front rows can offer an immersive experience, but be mindful that for film screenings, the very back orchestra seats might have difficulty seeing the entire screen due to the orchestra pit.
Ultimately, there are very few truly 'bad' seats at the Orpheum. The theatre's design ensures that most patrons have a satisfactory view and sound experience. However, for specific events like film concerts, checking reviews or diagrams for 'view from seat' can be beneficial. For VSO concerts, being in the middle of the balcony, or even slightly off-center, is generally considered ideal.

This historic gem has been meticulously preserved, allowing visitors to experience its original charm. The theatre's design isn't just about aesthetics; it contributes significantly to its renowned acoustics. Beyond its visual appeal, the Orpheum has also served as a backdrop for various film and television productions, adding another layer to its cultural significance. Its ability to host everything from classical concerts to modern touring acts, all while maintaining its historic integrity, makes it a truly special landmark in Vancouver.
Experiencing a Performance at the Orpheum
When it comes to etiquette, the advice is straightforward: be punctual, turn off your phone, and refrain from recording during the show. Intermission can bring long lines for concessions, so planning ahead or enjoying a pre-show meal nearby is a good strategy. The theatre's concessions offer typical movie-style snacks and beverages, but note that the bar is cashless.
For those attending film score concerts, like 'Home Alone in Concert' or 'Harry Potter,' there's often a fun, festive vibe, with some audience members dressing up in character. Regardless of the event, the Orpheum's terrific acoustics and friendly, helpful staff consistently contribute to a memorable and enjoyable evening. [^Review]
