Scenes from Mine Number Two on Bell Island This iron ore mine opened in 1902 and closed in 1949 and was a major part of the local economy. When the mine closed, Bell Island was forced to change. "It was a very unique and memorable experience! Heather was an absolute legend, super welcoming, full of fascinating info, and just an all-around awesome human. We didn’t get to venture into the actual mine but the virtual tour and museum totally rocked. 10/10 would recommend. Come for the history, stay for Heather’s good vibes!"

"Heather was an excellent tour guide. Everyone there was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the site and its history.

Teddy and everyone running the museum are an excellent crew. I hope that they are able to sort out the infrastructure issues they were having.
It's an incredibly valuable site."

Michael Taves

"Unfortunately, at the time I visited with my partner, the mine itself was undergoing renovations.

With that being said, we did pay for the museum and virtual tour. Geraldine was our guide and she was fantastic. Geraldine was very passionate about the tour and had several great stories, including a few about her father who used to work in one of the mines.

Even though the mine was closed we were still able to take a peek from the outside.

Geraldine made the tour unique and special and we would recommend it."
