"Calama is a city infested with bag thiefs.
After I got out of the bus, I was targeted by what seems to be an organized network of thiefs: 1 spilled something on me, another 2 were trying to distract me, and another 1 was ready to take my bag if I had let go of it.
Everyone knows what is going on. But there was no police to be seen. People are left to fend for themselves.
Tourists are more vulnerable, specially if traveling alone.
Better to avoid going to Calama, if possible."
