"The former site of the British Consulate in Beihai now houses a museum dedicated to the history of foreign consulates. Beihai was forced to open to foreign trade in 1876 by the Treaty of Yantai. The following year, Britain established a consulate in Beihai. This building was constructed by the second British consul and completed in 1885. In the early 20th century, Britain stopped sending consuls to Beihai. The building was sold and later used as a monastery. In 1999, due to road construction, the entire structure was moved 55.8 meters northeast to its current location. This is a two-story, curved-corridor building. More than a dozen historical Western buildings in Beihai resemble this, with single or double-story curved-corridors. The Beihai Museum of the History of Foreign Consulates is worth a visit. It clearly illustrates the rise and fall of foreign structures in Beihai. The exhibits are particularly interesting, especially the antique daily necessities."
