What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Heming Teahouse offers a truly authentic, albeit bustling, Chengdu teahouse experience. Visitors praise the unique long-spout tea ceremony and the vibrant, communal atmosphere of People's Park. However, be prepared for crowds, potential noise, and smoking, which can detract from the experience for some.
"Visited People's Park in Chengdu today, and decided to drop into their infamous Heming Tea House. It was overwhelmingly crowded, hot and noisy. I managed to find a seat, sat down and waited...and waited. For about 10 minutes, there was no service. I was about to walk off when a waitress noticed me, and showed me the menu of the different types of tea. I placed my order, unsure of what I have ordered. Suddenly, this guy appeared with something looking like teapot with a long spout. He started doing all this fanciful moves, pausing to dispense a few squirts of some liquid onto my teacup. It was tea!! A good tea at that. Nevertheless, apart from good cup of tea, the place was hot, noisy, crowded, and as someone mentioned, full of smokers. I was disappointed to say the least, and won't recommend it."

The Art of Gongfu Tea
During your visit, you'll likely witness the famous long-spout teapot performance. This isn't just for show; the long spout allows the server to pour boiling water from a distance, cooling it slightly before it hits the tea leaves, which is crucial for delicate teas. It also adds a dramatic flair to the service. Remember that the first steep is often for rinsing the leaves and warming the teapot, so don't be surprised if it's not served to you.
When ordering, you might see options like the '88 yuan box set,' which is noted as being both visually appealing and tasty, offering a good introduction to the teahouse's offerings.
