What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Pearl River Night Cruise is widely praised as a must-do for its spectacular city views, especially the illuminated Guangzhou Tower. While the boat itself and onboard amenities like food might be basic, the visual experience of the glittering skyline and river reflections is consistently described as amazing and highly recommended for families and photographers alike.
"Highly recommended! Took my family on this and it was beautiful - a fabulous way to see the city lit up at night. We paid extra to sit outside and really enjoyed this cruise.
TIP - Do make sure you have your passports with you as it seems you need them to book any tours in China, and the ticket office did not accept credit or debit cards so make sure you have cash or local apps like AliPay or WeChat Pay."

"I took an evening river cruise when I was in Guangzhou recently and it was an amazing experience. I got my tickets at the counter located near the base of Canton Tower. The crew here was very helpful and polite and they spent time answering questions from tourists about the cruise itself. After getting the ticket, I was directed to the pier which is less than 10mins walk from the ticket counter. Despite the large crowd, the team at the pier was efficient and got all of us boarded quickly. Light refreshments was served onboard during the cruise. I sat at the top, open deck. The boat moved slowly to give us plenty of opportunity to take pictures of the night view and lights from both sides of the river. It was such an enjoyable experience and fun way to explore the city."

"You are a fool if you don’t take a night-time river cruise when in GZ. The light show from numerous buildings, bridges and boats is amazing!!
The boat itself is a bit underwhelming but I don’t think any of the other choices are better.
The boat is clean and the staff pleasant but the food options are limited and below average and the drinks are OK. is OK; drinks OK. A continuous loud commentary dominates the air.
Really there is the potential here to have devices that you control to learn what you want (culture/history/ architecture …) in your preferred language or a chat with your friends or contemplative music.
Cocktails and a much more interesting food list would really add to the experience.
The different decks could be used more creatively - food floor; dimly lit floor to give the lights outside their full potential; even dancing on the stage could be an option. Kids friendly zone with a child minder or games; river/boat toys? Many possibilities."

📸 📸 Photography Tips
The 'golden hour' during sunset offers beautiful light, and the period after dark when the city lights are fully on provides dramatic shots.
Use a tripod if possible for stability, a wider aperture to capture more light, and a higher ISO (but be mindful of noise). Experiment with long exposures for light trails.
Focus on capturing the Guangzhou Tower, the illuminated bridges, and the reflections of city lights on the water. The open-air decks offer unobstructed views.
A wide-angle lens is great for capturing the expansive skyline, while a telephoto lens can be useful for isolating specific buildings or details.
Try to shoot from different angles and avoid direct reflections. Using a polarizing filter can also help reduce glare.
