What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Xiuying Fort to be a well-preserved historical gem offering a glimpse into China's past at an affordable price. While the indoor exhibition's language barrier is a drawback, the fort's structure and replica cannons are appreciated for their historical significance and the tranquil atmosphere.
"One of the four forts of ancient China, over 130 years old. It has preserved its original structure, except for the five German cannons that were damaged and had to be replaced by copies. Full entrance fee is 10 yuens, but you can pay less outside the peak times (I paid 8 yuens). There is an indoors exposition explaining all the construction of the fort, but unfortunately everything is written in Chinese only. Worth visiting!"

A Glimpse into History
While the physical fort is a primary draw, an indoor exhibition hall provides further context. However, visitors should be aware that the information within this exhibition is exclusively in Chinese. This might present a challenge for non-Chinese speakers, but the visual displays can still offer insights into the fort's construction and history.
Despite the language barrier in the exhibition, the fort itself offers a tangible connection to the past. The presence of replica German cannons adds to the historical atmosphere, evoking the era of its active service. While the fort is well-preserved, the indoor exhibition's language barrier is a key point to note. Bringing a translation app or focusing on the visual aspects of the fort and cannons can enhance the experience for international visitors.
