"A very large, original temple complex where many monks still live. It's well worth a visit, with free admission and off-peak tourism."

Thomas Forster

"Nengren Temple, formerly known as Chengtian Temple, is said to have been first built during the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang (502-549) in the Southern Dynasties and rebuilt during the Dali period of the Tang Dynasty. It was destroyed by war in the 12th year of the Yuan Dynasty's Zhizheng reign (1352). It was rebuilt in the 12th year of the Ming Dynasty's Hongwu reign (1379) and renamed in the 2nd year of the Hongzhi reign (1489). It was destroyed again during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty. Most of the current buildings date back to the 9th year of the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi reign (1870). It is the largest of the three major monasteries in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province."
