What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Jiuzhaigou Valley for its breathtaking, almost surreal natural beauty, particularly its vibrant, multi-colored lakes and stunning waterfalls. The park's efficient shuttle system is appreciated for navigating the vast area. However, many note the overwhelming crowds, especially during peak seasons and holidays, which can detract from the experience.
"Our visit to this World Heritage place after visiting Huanglong, and it definitely is the prettier and more unique of the two 👍🏻
That said, the rowdiness of the crowd when it comes to queueing at the park entrance to the shuttle bus is horrifying.
⏰ timeline as follows:
0655 reach
0730 clear queue
0815 reach long lake peak (random of the two peaks)
0935 reach bamboo lake (to transit to the forest peak)
0955 reach forest peak
1105 reach swan lake shuttle
1200 reach centre
1330 reach waterfall shuttle
1400 reach base camp
🌊 first of the few categories of scenic spots were its famous blue/green water lakes/sea - which was very pretty at first sight, since we were brought to one of the deepest lakes (90m deep) at 3000m above sea level
💦 the waterfall were the other category, and we visited the one nearest to the centre of the camp since that’s the nicest of the few available
🌲 the forest peak is alright, not something that can’t be found outside of the park
In general, the vibes and majestic mountains played a big part in the entire atmosphere, the most memorable one being the swan lake where we walked into a treeless mountain, and blue lake and a pine tree mountain too.
That said, I wouldn’t visit more than 2 of the same categories as they can get repetitive - would advise to stay at unique places for longer to soak in the beauty of the view instead of chasing all the sights."

"Breathtaking views and soothing environment to the soul. One will not regret for the time spent there and the effort to get there. We were there during the off-peak perod (May). But the place is still crowded as it was over the weekend. The park had good transportation arrangements to ensure all visitors are ferried from point to point timely. Do note that visitation & transportation fees is only valid for one day. May contemplate to come back here again during the best viewing months from Sep to Jan."

"Jiuzhai Valley National Park is a river valley consisting of numerous lakes joined by scenic rivers and impressive waterfalls. The water is crystal clear and the lakes have some vibrant blue and turquoise colours. A shuttle bus will take you to the top of the valley and from there you can walk or take the bus down the numerous stops back to the entrance. Tickets cost about 300 yuan in June 2025. You'll need at least a full day to do it all."

The Magic of Jiuzhaigou's Waters
Key to this phenomenon are the travertine formations, which act as natural dams, creating the numerous lakes. The mineral-rich water deposits calcium carbonate, forming terraces and barriers that shape the water's flow and color. Popular spots like Five Flower Lake and Panda Lake are prime examples of this natural artistry, offering unparalleled visual experiences.
Visitors often describe the water as looking unreal, like a painting or a fantasy world. The clarity allows you to see the submerged trees and rocks, adding depth and texture to the already mesmerizing scenes. Experiencing these waters firsthand is truly a highlight of any visit to Jiuzhaigou.
Navigating Jiuzhaigou: The Shuttle Bus System
Travelers often recommend arriving early to secure shuttle bus tickets, as they can sell out, especially during peak times. The buses are frequent, but queues can form at popular boarding points. The system is designed to minimize traffic within the park, preserving its natural beauty and ensuring a smoother visitor experience.
Planning your route using the shuttle bus stops is crucial for maximizing your time. The buses typically take you to the upper reaches of the valley, and from there, you can either walk along designated paths or take subsequent buses down to explore different sections. This efficient system makes it possible to cover a significant portion of the park in a single day.
Autumn's Spectacle: The Best Time for Colors
This seasonal transformation is what draws many visitors, making autumn the peak tourist season. The combination of the crisp autumn air, the clear skies, and the breathtaking colors makes for unforgettable photographic opportunities and a truly immersive natural experience. Many reviewers and content creators highlight autumn as the absolute best time to witness Jiuzhaigou's magic.
However, it's important to note that autumn also brings the largest crowds. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, consider visiting in late spring or early winter, though you'll miss the peak autumn foliage. Regardless of the season, the unique beauty of Jiuzhaigou is sure to leave a lasting impression.
