What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
West Island (Xidao) is praised for its stunning natural beauty and excellent photo opportunities, often compared to a 'China's Hawaii.' However, visitors note limitations on 'unbridled fun,' with activities sometimes controlled by operators and restricted areas for exploration. It's a place best enjoyed for its scenery and photo ops rather than extensive beach activities.
"Limited fun
Beautiful without a doubt, but don’t go there thinking you can have unbridled fun! Trip over on ferry is quick and efficient.the first beaches you see are the best ones so don’t go roving around for less crowded or less stones and rocks . Swimming sunbathing are not high on the list here , paddle your ankles or go dressed like a princess for photoshot is more the line here, will have to join the queue for the best photo opportunities, loads a people.
Eat but don’t do in main eat street go down the village back alleys and find cheaper cleaner less populated restaurant.Island is bigger than it is on the paper map they give you so walking around it will take a while,so get a e-bike and the world ( or island)is your ouster .. but not quite ,the places you can drive to are limited by bollards big fences or security guards who stop you having that much fun by telling you two wheeled vehicles can’t go any further but four wheeled ( extra money) ones go whipping by. That’s ok we will walk then ,let’s go and see the turtle beach …. They aren’t real ! Don’t go there ! No problem let’s do some sea sports swimming diving surfing all not really popular here cus it’s a beach ,so let’s jet ski or motor boat or jet pack , good idea but be ready for them doing the driving in small circles at not high speeds for not that long for not that low a price ,seeing you are paying for him / her to have fun ,you are not in control of anything . Ok then off for a coffee with sea views or views of people taking pictures of themselves, and good luck finding the place to return your e-bike with all the bollards people and security guards .but I do it an injustice it is nice and you are by the sea and there are beaches and stunning views the people are relaxed friendly and not pushy it’s well worth a visit but for us westerners the are lots of limits to your fun . But enjoy!"

"It has great sea water, good island customs, wide view, and is suitable for taking photos and walking.
Note: 1. The beach near Niuwang Island is a reef beach, not a sandy beach, so pay attention to safety to prevent hurting your feet; 2. Try not to take the 35¥ sightseeing bus, you can go to the 25¥ sightseeing bus near the summer tourist center, which has a better experience and is near the coral old house."
