"Tradruk Temple is the earliest great geomantic temple (650AD) after the Jokhang and some sources say it predates that temple. The temple is a little out of the way from the usual tourist sites, but considering the strong heritage and historical background, I highly recommend visiting for appreciation of the Tibetan culture and Buddhism.

"Changzhug Gonba Monastery
Chang: eagle; Zhu (zhu): dragon, according to legend, when building the monastery, he encountered an evil dragon. Songtsen Gampo transformed into a great eagle to subdue it, so the monastery was named Chang zhu. In the history of Tibetan Buddhism, famous figures such as Master Padmasambhava, Milareba (Mi La Ri Ba)... all practiced around this monastery. Pilgrims still pay homage to the practice sites of the ancestors. In addition, Princess Wencheng, the 5th and 13th Dalai Lamas also practiced here, and their relics are still preserved. Therefore, later, the monastery was under the management of the Gelug sect. The architecture of the monastery is similar to that of the Jokhang Temple. In addition to worshiping Buddha, there are also statues of Songtsen Gampo, two temple officials, and the great minister Loc Dong Tan in the hall. Furthermore, the temple's treasure is the pearl Thangka painting depicting Guanyin sitting on a mountain (1.2m * 2m), with a total of 29,026 pearls and other extremely precious stones such as rubies, sapphires, amethysts, green pine, red coral, gold... Every day, this painting attracts many followers to come and worship and admire."
