What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Shougang Park is widely praised for its unique industrial aesthetic and successful transformation into a modern recreational space. Visitors love the striking visuals, the blend of history and contemporary design, and the impressive Big Air Shougang venue. Some find it a bit far from the city center, and certain areas can feel spread out.
"This place is very impressive.
An old power plant, converted into the foyer/conference rooms/dining area of a hotel, with the rooms connected by a 3rd story covered hallway.
I have photos attached of the room and some of the facilities, but they don't do it justice.
Food was great, service was great, area interesting, but it is about a 90 min drive from the international airport."

"Room size is fair enough, love the washroom area 🩷 however the kettle seems prolonged usage, when we tried to boil water for second time, water was in yellow colour…hmm hotel staff managed to provide us another kettle which seems a brand new one.
Hotel breakfast (during weekend) is superb, much variety and love their Peking Duck roll and deep-fried Taro roll 🩷"

"A beautiful and unique boutique hotel in a peaceful and not very touristy neighbourhood .. with one major issue. Cheap management.
We checked into the hotel on 29 April, 2 days before Labor Day, a major holiday in China. We were given 2 rooms on the 8th floor, the highest.
The rooms were like a sauna, insanely hot, and the air con was completely non functional - it was just blowing warm air no matter how low you set the thermostat. I had engineers come up to my room and they measured the air coming out at 30C. Even with the air con off the room didn't cool down.
I did change rooms to the 5th floor and it was marginally better but not amazing. Staff did their best and provided me with a fan which helped a little.
It was let slip later by a staff member that the air conditioning system was off until May 1, because there were not enough guests.
After May 1 our experience transformed - the air con started working and the breakfast options expanded greatly. I do think the latter makes sense, but it's unbelievable that a 5 star Shangri La would switch off the air conditioning, especially in a fairly warm period. It's totally unbecoming of the brand and I was really disappointed.
The last few days were great. The breakfast was delicious with an excellent spread. The hotel is really beautiful and aesthetically designed. There was one night where the water wasn't hot enough for a bath, though - perhaps management is also skimping on the water heater...
The location is good but definitely not for tourists, but more for those looking for a relaxing staycation, or who have a nearby event or conference. It takes an hour to get to major tourist attractions in Beijing.
If the management didn't cheap out this would be an amazing hotel. As it is, I don't think it meets Shangri La brand standards."
