What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Silk Street Market offers a vast array of goods, from fashion and silk to souvenirs, with a strong emphasis on bargaining. While some find it has become more commercialized, many still enjoy the thrill of negotiation and the potential for unique finds, especially for custom tailoring. Be prepared for crowds and the need to haggle for the best prices.
"Silk Street is no longer the icon it once was, but value is still there if you know how to negotiate.
Quality varies widely, so inspect items carefully and don’t be swayed by the first offer. Posted prices are often several times higher than what you should pay, so consider them an opening move rather than a reality.
Bargaining is essential: start low, counter in small steps, and be ready to walk away—vendors commonly call you back with a better price.
Aim for a price you’re comfortable with rather than chasing the absolute minimum.
You can land strong discounts across categories, from textiles and accessories to small electronics and souvenirs"

"Super market on the bottom floor is good. Most the sellers in the mall are trying to profit of those who can't read prices off of taobao. I like the redesign but honestly its lacks anything of the former silk street less people, less sellers, and nothing worth buying. I dont know what killed this mall but look up what it was like before compared to the newer pictures on here."

"This was one of my favorite markets at Beijing. They have some very authentic silk pajamas, and robes that you can bring back to your friends. I would highly recommend negotiating though ! I don’t buy fake products, but they do sell fake products there, you just have to directly ask for them because they are hidden and not in plain sight. I had a woman approach Me asking if I was interested in fake since I was wearing designer in the store. So it’s definitely there, you just have to ask. This is definitely more of the upscale market compared to its others through throughout Beijing. If you were looking for souvenirs, this is where I would go."
