It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the finest and largest gardens in all of southern China. He named it the "Humble Administrator's Garden" to reflect his quiet, simple aspirations. Over the centuries, the garden changed hands many times and was divided into separate private estates. It served various purposes, including a government office and a prince's residence during the Taiping Rebellion. The current appearance of the garden largely reflects the late Qing Dynasty style, and the three main sections were finally reunited by the Chinese government in 1949 and subsequently opened to the public."
