"An island with a view! Just in front of the Kui Men, the gateway of the Qutang Gorge, lies Baidicheng, the "White Emperor City". Legend has it that the city's name is due to the warlord Gongsunshu, who, after seeing white smoke coming from a well in the form of a dragon, proclaimed himself Emperor of the Chengjia. Baidicheng exerted great appeal to poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu and Liu Yuxi. They all wrote about this city and the nearby Kui Men, hence Baidicheng's nickname: "City of Poems". Formerly as a hill along the Yangtze, and now as a peninsula in the Yangtze, this beautiful location still attracts many people, and rightly so!"
