Reviews Summary
Nanchan Temple is appreciated for its beautiful nighttime illumination and free admission, offering a glimpse into Wuxi's history and culture. Visitors enjoy exploring the surrounding shopping corridor for unique antiques and vintage finds, as well as the nearby boat ride. However, some find the atmosphere less serene than expected, with elements of modern life and performances present within the temple grounds.
"There are several Buddhist temples in Wuxi. Nanchan Temple is one of them. It's from 8:30 to 5:30. Without this time you can't enter inside. It's become more Beautiful at night. Lovely place."
Sayed Ala Moududi
"A bizarre experience. First, you were greeted with an army of “Dama”(大媽 / aunties)on a stage competing for a sponsored dance competition near the temple entrance. The music was, uh, deafening. Then you would bump into monks paying attention to their mobile phones and locals smoking inside the temple area. There was also a shopping corridor located next to the Temple, littered with run-down shops and stalls selling antiques, as well as vintage comic books and Mao badges from the 60s and 70s of the last centuries. If you were into architecture of centuries-old buildings with an authentic Zen vibe, I am not sure this is the place you are looking for. Free admission though."
