Reviews Summary
Comuna 13 is overwhelmingly praised as a powerful and transformative experience, with visitors consistently highlighting the stunning street art, the resilience of the community, and the insightful guided tours. While some mention minor delays in tour starts, the overall sentiment is one of awe and deep appreciation for the neighborhood's vibrant rebirth and cultural richness.
"Last Saturday August 9, 2025, as part of our travel vacations to Medellin we went to Comuna 13. This must to do in Medellin. What to spectate in the visit? A lot of experience. It has a stunning history.
Part of it: Comuna 13's history is one of extreme violence and marginalization, originating in the 1980s and 90s as a dangerous, isolated neighborhood plagued by drug cartel control, guerrillas and a lack of state presence.
The community was transformed through community-led initiatives, particularly street art, transforming its narrative from "dangerous" to a vibrant cultural hub known for its graffiti, dance, and public escalators, which symbolize its resilience and rebirth.
A Comuna 13 tour is a personal experience.
We enjoyed local culture and food, and the stunning breathtaking views of the city from the mountainside."

"Amazing tour to do. The neighborhood is beautiful and full of history. It is worth doing it with a local guide to know everything about the history and culture of the place, very important both for Medellin and Colombia in general. It is a must do in the city of Medellin ! I hope I will come back one day to explore every street. I definitely recommend !"

"Visiting Comuna 13 was a powerful and unforgettable experience. Once known for violence, it’s now a vibrant, artistic, and welcoming neighborhood full of color, life, and resilience. The street art is stunning—each mural tells a story of hope, struggle, and pride.
We took a guided tour led by a local who shared personal stories and deep insights into the history and culture. Between live hip-hop shows, food vendors, and incredible views, it felt more like a living museum than a tour.
The escalators and cable cars make it surprisingly accessible, though you’ll still do some walking. Go during the day, wear comfy shoes, and bring cash for snacks and tips.
Highly recommended—it’s one of the most meaningful things you can do in Medellín."
