What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Refugio La Pastora is lauded for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its waterfalls and lush mountain forest setting. Visitors appreciate the cozy hostel accommodations and the opportunity for a deep connection with nature. However, the challenging and often muddy trail conditions can be a significant deterrent for some.
"Today the hike from the end of Via Suiza was along an awful “trail” that alternated between rocky creekbed and total mudfest. I turned around after two hours. Surprisingly unenjoyable. Might be nicer/drier at other times.
To be clear, I did not make it to La Pastora. I’m told it’s a nice place to camp and relax. The “trail” there, tho, yikes…If you need a waterfall, Los Frailes is a much more accessible option for a half-day trip out of La Florida or Pereira."

"Best nature contact experience I ever had"

"This wonderful place, sited in the middle of high mountain forest in Colombia, is the gate of the Otun Lagoon; it is administrated by CARDER, a local govern entity. You can access this place coming from Pereira, traveling in bus or in your car to El Cedral, where the road finishes. Then you can continue by a trail riding a rental horse, riding your mountain bike or walking if preferred. The trail rises following the Otun river course. The air and landscape are great. La Pastora is a small and nice hostel. You can stay there in comfortable small rooms, enjoying typical food and a hot highly sugar beverage (aguapanela) around the fireplace. If you visit La Pastora you are going to fall in love with this part of Colombia's forest and you'll be back. I recommend to all of you to visit La Pastora and all the beautiful places around."
