What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Valle de Cocora for its breathtaking, fairytale-like scenery dominated by the world's tallest wax palms. The hiking trails and optional horseback riding are highlighted as fantastic ways to experience the unique landscape. While some find the trails challenging and signage lacking, the overall consensus is that it's an unforgettable and must-visit destination in Colombia's Coffee Region.
"Beautiful place! The horse ride is a great experience but optional. You can still go up the mountain without the horse ride. It is just a long walk uphill. There are three different entrances with three unique things to admire and do. The three entrances have separate prices. The most common ones are the first and second. The first one is to your right as you go up the road. It has colorful signs and decorations for pictures and different levels uphill for a great view. It has a parking lot next to it, a restaurant, and shopping little spots. The second entrance is up the road (5-7 mnt walk). There's also a parking spot, but no restaurants. This one is a taller mountain with great views, and if you make it to the top, you'll see the HAND. Built to stand up on it for pictures surrounded by beautiful views!"

"Not my favourite hike. Might as well have a holiday home at the base. For all that it's not signposted very well...at all. Handily no one was at the information point. What is the point in a sign telling people they have only 30 seconds to take a picture if it is only in Spanish when everyone ignores it anyway."

"This was one of our favourite things to do in Colombia. If you are visiting the Salento region this is one of the places you should definitely visit. Make sure you get there early in the morning. It starts to get busy around 10:30AM. It is also more likely to rain in the afternoon, mornings are usually clear. We started our tour around 8AM. You can choose to do the walk on foot or take a horse. Since it was quite steep and muddy we picked a horse tour. If you have a good endurance you can also do it on foot. There are several viewpoints and the scenery is amazing. The palmtrees are the highest in the world and all other hillside are full of beautiful trees and flowers. It does look like something out of a fairy tale. The viewpoints can get busy later in the morning and you might have to wait in line if you want specific pictures. Still, we wouldn’t want to have missed it. Make sure you bring multiple layers (but not too much since you will get quite hot walking uphill), hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water/snacks. Toilets are available at the entrance for a small fee but not in the valley itself."
