Viernes de suerte 🤩 Lucky Friday! Lucky visitors at our Bajo del Tigre Reserve got a rare glimpse of this mama Northern Tamandua with a baby on her back 😍 Tamanduas have small eyes and poor vision, and rely heavily on their sense of smell. Females give birth to one offspring per year, which they carry on their back. Algunos dichosos visitantes tuvieron la suerte de ver a esta mamá oso homiguero c...

Carpintero Dorado Verde. Golden-olive Woodpecker taking a dust bath then doing woodpecker things. I was walking at a wildlife refuge called Bajo del Tigre and someone told me that at the end of this path, there has been an Ornate hawk-eagle sighting, so naturally that's where I went. I couldn't find the Ornate hawk-eagle, but I still ticked off two new birds. This beautiful woodpecker, and the Squ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Bajo del Tigre for its beautiful forest, knowledgeable guides, and the chance to see rare wildlife like the Bell Bird. The night tours are a particular highlight, offering a unique glimpse into the nocturnal ecosystem. While some find it smaller than other reserves, its conservation mission and intimate encounters make it a worthwhile visit.

"A beautiful place. We visited with a very knowledgeable guide whose English was excellent. As was his knowledge of the forest, it's history, and the wildlife. We felt very honored to see the Bell Bird - apparently only 300 pairs remain in the world and we saw 3 on one branch. Plenty of beautiful birds to admire (and I'm not normally a bird watcher) plus the guide provided binoculars. We also spotted "mafia" monkeys, and huge troop of Coati and many different types and colour of butterfly. Oh, and a tarantula! Would highly recommend, the place was super quiet and the staff seemed genuinely grateful for our visit. Hopefully the forest can continue to expand and help to save more precious animals and plants. Loved every minute of our visit."

Andy Burns

"We could tell our guide really loves his job, he loves this forest, he loves his country. And I am all for it. We loved the night tour. They made sure everyone got the iconic sunset photo, and then took us into the forest to learn about the nightlife and the history of the reserve. We didn’t take as many photos as we could have, but spent a great deal of time listening to the forest and peeking around in the dark. We loved it."

"We saw so much! Nothing is guaranteed, but it's all in there. Our best reserve trail experience in Monteverde."
