What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rio Perdido is lauded as an exceptional eco-lodge with impeccable service and stunning natural beauty. Guests rave about the delicious food, well-maintained grounds, and the unique thermal river experience. While some find the activity prices high, the overall consensus is that it's a worthwhile splurge for an unforgettable stay.
"Rio Perdido is a true gem! The staff is very welcoming and professional. Special shoutout to Wil at the restaurant and the all the guides. This is a hotel for active people. If you just want to chill by the pool, this may not be the best place for you. To fully enjoy the property, you need to explore and register for activities. We were surprised by the price of some activities so be ready to splurge if you want the full experience. The canyon adventure (zip line, via ferrata) and the tubing in Rio Blanco are a must! The guides are fantastic and the equipment was of great quality (much better than many places in Canada where we did similar activities). Take advantage of the guided walk on your first morning so you can explore the hiking trails. The thermal river is a short (but very steep) walk from the pools and a wonderful experience - bonus if you try the volcanic mud bath. The hotel is in a very secluded area so not the best spot to explore Guanacaste on your own but there is a bunch of stuff to do ! We took an excursion to Rio Celeste (Tenorio National Park) and it was fantastic but not sure it was worth the price. It was nice to be driven around in a comfy SUV and have a very passionate and knowledgeable private guide to show us various animals along the path but when you know the price of the entry for the park, it feels a bit like a ripoff. Also, even if they charge you a high fee for activities, they charge you extra (like $60 per couple) to download the pictures they take during the activities (because you can’t bring anything along) I would be ok to pay for quality print outs but not for this… The food is very good and there is a lot to chose from."

"There are not enough words to say how amazing Rio Perdido is.
The rooms were so beautifully designed (albeit the center bungalows are DARK) and the housekeeping service was exceptionally thorough. They felt private enough even if you could see people on the pathways or your neighboring bungalows.
The food on the property was excellent, and we didn't have a single bad meal over our 5 days / 4 nights. I will say by the last morning we were excited to have new food options when leaving the hotel, but that's no fault of the hotel; they had loads of options so you could end up never repeating a meal.
We ended up doing a package and it was worth every dollar. We had SO much fun at the guaro cocktail class with Weslyn. The massage was one of the best I've ever had. The ziplining was equally beautiful, challenging, and thrilling - and extra kudos to the entire staff working it, gosh that job looks hard!
Every single member of the staff was kind, warm, welcoming, and loved to teach us bits of Spanish during our time. They made you feel like a friend instead of a guest or customer. Just absolutely the best.
The grounds / property were so well maintained, it felt like you were in an oasis. The thermal River was beautiful, clean, and the mud mask was quite stinky so be warned. :)
Only amazing things to say and I wish I could come back every year. Thank you, Rio Perdido and your incredible team!"

"My husband and I spent 6 nights at Rio Perdido for a wonderful honeymoon! We loved our stay - the service is impeccable, the food and amenities are great, and the tours/activities enhance the experience.
Our favorite part was the wildlife. We saw monkeys, frogs, lots of birds (including a toucan on the Chocolate Tour excursion), lizards, agoutis, armadillos, a scorpion, and so much more.
One note for fellow travelers is that I experienced some minor digestive issues in Costa Rica (we suspect that this was a bug from the airport or due to the volcanic minerals in the water; Rio Perdido is very clean). I would recommend bringing any medicine you think you might need as the resort is somewhat remote, especially if you don’t rent a car. I did not pack medicine, but the staff went out of their way to offer soothing beverages, which I appreciated! My husband didn’t have any problems.
Most people seem to stay 3-4 nights and continue to the beach or Arenal. We had plenty to do during our weeklong stay, but it is easy to transfer to another area, and I would recommend checking out all that Costa Rica offers.
Overall, Rio Perdido surpassed our expectations and certainly earns the many accolades they receive. Pura vida!"
