What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Las Hornillas offers a unique geothermal experience with its bubbling mud baths and hot springs, set against the backdrop of Miravalles Volcano. While many praise the natural beauty and therapeutic mud, some visitors note that the facilities could use modernization. The strong sulfur smell is a notable aspect of the experience.
"Very cool to have seen this, but MAN does it sulfur stink! If you're going splash that mud on then take the walk and shower at the end. We did the horseback riding up to the location, would have been nice for a little bit of instructions before we jumped on a horse:) overall great experience."
Jeff Henhoeffer
"A very unique experience, as it’s quite cool to be able to walk inside a volcano vein.
That said, the place definitely needs remodeling. I visited a couple of years ago, and it looks unchanged since then, as if no maintenance has been done to keep it up to date. There’s huge potential here, but the facilities really need work, as it currently feels like it’s on the verge of shutting down.
Practical notes: the website doesn’t work and the phone number is incorrect, so we weren’t sure if they were even open until we showed up (hours are 8 am to 5 pm). The Hornillas hike is very easy, and the mud bath is a nice touch. Prices are reasonable, but the hot springs are not worth it, as there are better options in the area."
Ronny Viquéz
"Delightful hot springs and a detoxifying mud bath. Thermal vents hissed, releasing plumes of steam into the air, a reminder of the volcanic forces beneath the surface. Bright yellow sulfur collected on the rocks around the vents, staining the landscape with vivid patches of color. Very relaxing."
