I’ve been lurking here for a while as we planned a trip 1/8-1/19. We are staying in Nosara the whole time and I just have to say, this country is so beautiful. We have yet to meet someone who isn’t extremely kind (and that says a lot coming from Midwest US). This is just an…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Nosara Biological Reserve Lagarta offers a jungle experience with potential wildlife sightings and a great viewpoint at Lagarta Lodge. However, many criticize the poorly maintained, muddy, and challenging trails, deeming it unsuitable for those with mobility issues and questioning the value for the entrance fee. The abundance of mosquitoes is also a common complaint.
"Great jungle walk. Not easy to find access - To access the reserve you need to go to the Lagarta Lodge hotel reception - pay $10 / person then walk through their property to access. Lots of birds and monkeys"

"The hike was impossible. It rained all day yesterday and the stream crossing on posts was not doable unless you just walked through the very thick mud. However the view from the hotel and included juice were fabulous"

"This is a terrible trail in a highly neglected "bio reserve". We started below Lagarta lodge and I'm surprised to read that people had to pay to enter. Last month I ran there but it was too muddy so I returned today with my daughter- now it's dry and dusty, trail is impassable in some sections and we ended up exiting out onto the road near Playa Ponies. I only gave it one star because of a few impressive trees (similar to strangler figs but different species) and the beautiful viewpoint toward OSTIONAL we saw from walking thru LL to get back to our quad.
We did a night walk here three years ago...aside from that I wouldn't waste your time.
