What the heck happened to Playa Blanca in Punta Leona? (Near Jaco, Puntaneras)
Wife and I visited 5 years ago before the pandemic (2018). It was an amazing beach, and white sand which you don't see in area. No vendors, no crowds. We were planning to go today and take our daughter with us, but upon research on how to get there, on both TripAdvisor and…

Beach stop between Monteverde and San Jose
I'm heading to Costa Rica next week, super excited! We are spending the last few days of our trip in Monteverde, and I noticed that the on drive to San Jose for the airport we'll drive along the coast. I'd love to see the pacific side for a few hours if possible. Looks like we…

Looking for suggestions for fun places to stop along the way between Monteverde and Quepos..
We stopped at Playa Blanca. It was beautiful and we were so excited to swim in the warm Pacific waters. That being said, the parking situation was a bit crazy. We lucked out and got a spot pretty easily. I would only go again if I thought it was low season/an off time.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Punta Morales Mangroves offers a tranquil beach experience with warm, calm waters ideal for swimming. Visitors appreciate the unique mangrove ecosystem and island views. However, the beach's gravelly sand and rocky entry necessitate water shoes, and amenities are scarce, making it more of a stop-by than a primary destination for some.
"Nice little beach in a laidback town.
It is better to visit on a low tide so you can explore the surroundings. Unfortunately, the rocks and beach collect trash from the bay, and the water might be mucky on some days, depending on the weather.
Nice to stop by. But I wouldn’t make it a destination 🫤"

"Beautiful beach ⛱️ nice place to relax and enjoy the sunshine and the sand. Lots of sea life in the mangroves saw colorful crabs 🦀 lots of beautiful sea shells 🐚 that can't be taken from the beach. It's illegal. Overall, it is a clean and safe, quiet beach."

"It's nice calm water and we had it to ourselves on a weekday but the sand looks and feels more like gravel, not too pleasant to walk on. It's pretty rocky walking into the water and I wished I brought water shoes. We took a little walk along the beach and wandered into some mangroves, which was fun. I had read that it was possible to see monkeys and sloths in the jungle backing the beach but we didn't see any. There are houses all along the road so we had the uneasy feeling that the homeowners might look out and not be happy to see us there."
