What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bačvice Beach is celebrated as Split's premier sandy beach, particularly loved by families for its shallow, safe waters and nearby playground. While it can get very crowded during peak season, its convenient location and amenities make it a popular choice for a relaxed day by the sea. Some visitors find other beaches prettier, but the sand and accessibility are undeniable draws.
"The beach is very dirty - covered in graffiti, and smelt strongly of urine.
The only reason to give two stars is that any coastal view in croatia is pretty. But you're better off sat by the harbour or going elsewhere (like to one of the islands)."
Lucie Price
"A beautiful beach to swim at. If you want to stay on shore it gets full, but there is a huge amount of space in the water at all depths. The beach is sandy so easy to get into and no pain for the feet. As per all Split beaches there are no life guards, but no riptide either.
People do jump off the rocks at one end, but note I saw a boy fall and taken to hospital. So be careful."

"Our favourite sand beach in Split. Quite crowded but great for families with children (shallow waters). Perfectly refreshing and easy walk to or from the oldtown. Parking available nearby, but can be crowded in the summer / high season. Also, across the street there's another playground for the kids."

The Appeal of Bačvice's Sand
While the sand is a significant advantage, it also contributes to the beach's popularity. During peak season, the sandy expanse can become quite crowded, with visitors seeking out their patch of comfort. Despite the crowds, the sheer size of the shallow water area means there's often ample space to enjoy the water itself, even if finding a prime spot on the sand requires an early start.
Family-Friendly Features and Safety
It's important to note that there are no lifeguards stationed at Bačvice Beach. While the gentle nature of the sea here generally poses less risk, visitors should still exercise caution, especially with young children. The presence of nearby cafes and snack bars means families can easily access refreshments and facilities like changing rooms. The convenience of being within walking distance of the Old Town also adds to its appeal for families visiting Split.
Navigating Crowds and Peak Season
For those seeking a more relaxed experience, visiting during the shoulder seasons, such as early September, can be a great alternative. The weather often remains warm and pleasant, but the number of visitors significantly decreases. Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends, even during peak season. While the beach can be busy, the vast shallow water area often provides enough space for everyone to enjoy a swim.
