What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find St. Mark's Church Ruins to be a quiet and charming historical site, particularly appreciating the unique sculptures and gravestones in its courtyard. While interior access is often limited, the exterior beauty and atmospheric setting make it a worthwhile stop for those exploring Hvar Town.
"The former three-nave building contains the graves of Hvar families from the period from the 15th to the 18th century. The monastery was no longer functional at the beginning of the 19th century, a large part was demolished or rebuilt, and the church's inventory is in the churches on the island."

"We tried to enter the church multiple times during our stay in Hvar and we were successful only one time. They don’t have hours posted and so it’s difficult to know when to come in. However, there was a wedding going on inside the courtyard of the church and we went in shortly after the ceremony. The church itself looks more like a storage facility for the wedding venue, which is the courtyard. Pretty strange if you ask me. But, the tower is beautiful and the courtyard is pretty neat with an interesting sculpture of a young woman being abducted, some gravestones underfoot, and some other stone reliefs/religious iconography. Probably better just to enjoy the tower and to photograph the outside than to worry about entering the courtyard."
