Reviews Summary

The MEMO Museum is a small, privately-owned gem offering a nostalgic trip through the past, with a recent emphasis on printing and letterpress. Visitors praise the warm and engaging owners, the interactive exhibits, and the dog-friendly policy. However, some are surprised by the shift in focus from purely retro items to printing machinery, and the museum's small size means visits are typically very brief.

"Nice little medium, unfortunately it’s too little to be great.

We love a little bit of nostalgia tourism, and really enjoyed this museum. However, the whole exhibit is only five small rooms, so while they pack a lot of items into the space it’s really a matter of 10 to 20 minutes before you’ve seen everything there is. Little bit of a cleaning for the exhibit, as well as pumping up the tires in the car and a bike, would go along way into making it nicer as well."

"Absolutely amazing little private museum. We had great time remember our childhood in seventies and eighties and showing our kids our bikes and our records and our first computers. Little Fića (Fiat 500) is still dominating entrance. The Beatles Red album playing on famous Tosca record player. With 5 dinars coin pressing on needle. This is private collection. Lot os stuff belongs to people keeping door open. And they are just wonderful people. We spend probably half of the visit chating, asking our kids what they think exhibits where used for, and generally having lively conversation with them. Turned out pictures on the wall belongs to owners. Staring with black and white family photos becoming Titos pionir, school pictures and so on. Same pics as we have of ourselves. I mentioned.that my grandad and family used to live in Pula on late forties and all 3 people from museum helped locating building where they lived asking for my family name and history. And on the end we where send off with very detailed description of House we where looking for and bunch of gifts they print on printing press which is also exhibited in museum. And with big smiles.on pur faces. If you have half an hour spare do pay them a visit. Say hi and show interest and I am sure someone will show you around and share present conversation. Live them some donation as well. This little gem surely deserves to stay open and people keeping it are making pretty good effort to have it on. My dears, thank you very much for wonderful time and for your pleasant and warm company. We will see you again every time we visit Pula. Take care"

"We adored this little museum as we could compare our childhood experience with one in a different country. Plenty to see and some exhibits could be handled. We could also take our dog, which was a definite bonus! Tickets were not expensive. Very enjoyable!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Evolution of MEMO Museum: From Nostalgia to Printing

The MEMO Museum, once primarily celebrated for its collection of nostalgic items from the Yugoslav era, has undergone a significant transformation. While remnants of its past focus on 70s and 80s memorabilia, including records and early computers, still exist, a substantial portion of the exhibition now centers on printing and letterpress. This shift means visitors will encounter a variety of old printing machines and learn about related techniques. Reddit

This evolution has led to mixed reactions. Some visitors appreciate the new focus, finding the printing exhibits interesting and the museum a unique space. Others, who visited expecting the purely retro experience highlighted in older reviews or on some tourist websites, have expressed surprise and disappointment at the change. It's important for potential visitors to be aware of this updated focus to manage expectations. Reddit

Despite the exhibit changes, the museum retains its charm, largely due to the personal touch of its owners. They are often described as warm, engaging, and eager to share stories about the exhibits and even local history. This personal interaction, coupled with the opportunity to handle some items, continues to make the MEMO Museum a memorable stop for many.

A Personal Touch: The Heart of MEMO Museum

What truly sets the MEMO Museum apart is the passion and warmth of its owners. Unlike larger institutions, this is a private collection where the individuals behind it are actively involved in the visitor experience. They are known for striking up conversations, sharing anecdotes about the items on display, and even assisting visitors with local historical inquiries. Reddit

This personal connection transforms a brief museum visit into a more engaging and memorable encounter. Visitors often report spending a significant portion of their time chatting with the owners, learning about the history of the items, and feeling a genuine sense of welcome. This human element is frequently cited as a highlight, making the museum feel less like a sterile exhibit and more like a personal journey through memory. Reddit

The owners' dedication is evident in their efforts to maintain and present the collection. They are happy to share insights, answer questions, and even offer small gifts, such as custom-printed items, demonstrating their commitment to providing a positive experience. This level of personal engagement is a rare find and a key reason why many visitors express a desire to return. Reddit
