I was genuinely overwhelmed with emotion when learning the story of St Peter’s monastery and the lone nun - Mother Abbess Maria. Further context: This is St. Peter’s Monastery, within the medieval walled city of Mdina, Malta, a convent with roots tracing back to the 15th century. It belongs to the Benedictine Order, where cloistered nuns vow never to leave the convent walls (except in necessity),...

Even if you don’t have much time on Mljet, don’t skip this lovely spot.✨ Set on a small islet in the Big Lake of Mljet National Park, the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary is one of the oldest church complexes on the Adriatic. Built in the 12th century, it once stood so close to the water that monks were said to fish straight from their windows.🤓 Surrounded by nature and silence, this place feels ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Church of St. Mary for its significant Silver and Gold Collection, highlighting the impressive religious artifacts and historical relics. The panoramic views from the bell tower are consistently lauded as breathtaking. However, some find the parking lot detracts from the atmosphere, and the strict no-photography rule inside the exhibition can be a point of contention for some.

"The Benedictine Monastery of Saint Maria is a lovely, working monastery. The nuns sell embroidery, home made liquor and food items. There is also an unbelievable collection of gold and silver religious artifacts many containing relics of Saints. No photography is allowed of the collection."

Louis and Elaine

"A small, simple Romanesque style church located just off the old Roman forum. In the four days that I was in Zadar it was never open, so I'm not sure if it's open to the public. There is a monastery and a small museum attached to the church. There is also a rather large parking lot located right next to it which detracts quite a bit from its old-world charm. Still, it is a nice backdrop for photos, and a picturesque landmark."

Bobby C

"Made the visit in August 2022, entry ticket was 15 kn. The climb to the top includes 5 sets of stairs, and the view from the top is absolutely amazing as it overlooks the entire city of Zadar and the surrounding area."
