Reviews Summary

Visitors often find Iglesia de la Caridad to be a place of deep personal reflection and historical significance. Its unique colonial city block design and the revered replica of Our Lady of Charity are highlighted as key features. While not a bustling tourist spot, it offers a serene atmosphere for contemplation and a connection to the past.

"My mother forced me to go to church when it wasn't well-regarded. I was 7 years old and went alone from Monte Carlos. I was a shy and abused child, very afraid even to defend myself. One day during catechism, Father Ramón, whom I fondly remember from the land of my grandparents (Spain), asked me, "What's wrong with you, son?" I replied that I was afraid, and he gave a sermon about fear. That child lost his fear forever; he even instilled fear in others by defending himself. Today I'm not a child, but the fear has returned. My mother is dying, and I can't do anything, but in a moment of lucidity, she remembers me and tells me, "God bless you, my son." Now the fear isn't for me, and I can't defend myself from anyone. I realized that this was really what Father Ramón wanted to tell me: to trust in God unconditionally. You may ask, "What does that have to do with a Google review?" Today I saw photos of children in the same church, children with dreams, so I thought, surely there's someone like me, afraid. Many years and much abuse have passed, and yet those children, full of faith, are still at that same altar with a different father, but with the same God. His will be done."

"It covers a city block that corresponds exactly to the regulations of the Spanish royal ordinances for its colonies. It houses an image of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre (a replica of the one in El Cobre, brought to the town around 1730-1734). The low walls surrounding it are used by students of the Noel Fernández Secondary School as benches for resting."
