Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the incredibly tasty and affordable homemade chocolate drinks, making it a must-visit cafe in Havana. While not a traditional museum, the historical displays add a unique touch. Some minor confusion about pricing or availability can occur, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, especially for those seeking a sweet, budget-friendly treat.

"Just 100 CUP for an iced chocolate, which was the only thing they had available. Definitely not a museum or much to see, but the chocolate drink is undoubtedly tasty enough for us to want to come back again. There may be lines on the weekends though."

"Not sure about negative experiences. We came here twice on different days and had no problems. Service was fast. We tried both the cold and hot versions of the chocolate drinks. Be aware that the cold has ice in it, but after trying unsuccessfully to avoid ice, we gave up and basically had no problems at all with ice in drinks in the 4 places we visited in Cuba. Cold version was very refreshing in the hot afternoon. Hot version was also very good. Not exactly the same as Chocolat L'Africain from Angelina's in Paris, but still pretty good, and it only costs 85 cuban pesos = $0.25 USD. Hot versions mostly dark chocolate taste. Cold version was sweeter and more like milk chocolate / malty taste to me with a milder taste with the ice. Both were great! Not sure why there would be any confusion with the bill. The prices are clearly printed on the small menu on a stand on each table in Cuban pesos. We had no problems with the bill, and left the standard 10% tip, which given the prices was trivial. Total paid was ~$1.75 USD for 6 chocolate drinks total including tip. We always only paid with Cuban pesos. First time we came, they had some small pastries on offer. The second time a week later, they only had the hot and cold chocolate. We did not have to wait for a seat and were served the drinks within 5 minutes."

Sweetness but not very sweet.. I mean it was just good enough to get more energies for the city trip! Was very nice to chat with Cuban people!"

The "Museum" Experience: What to Expect

The Chocolate Museum, or 'Museo del Chocolate,' is a bit of a misnomer for those expecting a traditional museum. Instead, it's a delightful cafe that incorporates historical elements related to chocolate. Visitors can find displays featuring old tools used in chocolate production, information about cocoa beans and their origins, and a brief overview of chocolate's journey through history. It's a charming way to add a touch of educational context to your visit, but the real star of the show is the beverage itself. Reddit

Many visitors appreciate these historical tidbits, finding them interesting and a nice complement to the main event: the chocolate. The displays are not extensive, but they provide enough context to make the experience more than just a simple cafe stop. It's a place where you can sip on a delicious drink while learning a little something about the sweet treat you're enjoying. Reddit

Savoring the Chocolate Drinks

The primary reason most people visit the Chocolate Museum is for its renowned homemade chocolate drinks. Both the hot and cold versions are highly praised for their rich flavor and quality. The hot chocolate is described as deeply chocolatey, while the cold version is a refreshing option, often served with ice, making it perfect for Havana's warm climate. Reddit

What truly sets these drinks apart is their affordability. Visitors consistently mention the incredibly low prices, often paying just a few Cuban Pesos for a generous serving. This makes it an accessible treat for almost everyone. While some reviews mention occasional availability issues with certain drink types, the overall consensus is that the chocolate is exceptionally tasty and well worth the visit. Reddit
