Beaches near Havana
Planning a week vacation in Havana. We would like to go to a beach for a couple of days. Would it be convenient to take day trips to a beach near Havana, and still go back to our Airbnb in Havana, or it would be just better to go to another city (mayve Varadero) and stay there…
The Quality of the beaches at playa del este Vs guanabo vs varadero
I'm planning a trip to Cuba soon. I'd like to see Havana of course, but I also like the beach. I was wondering if I should just stay in Havana the entire time, and make a couple of day trips out to Playa Del Este or Guanabo. Or if I should split my time between Havana and…

I was at playa santa maria in February. It's a 30 minute bus ride from the centre of Havana. The cost for the bus is $5 usd per person. It has ac, and the cost includes pickup and drop off at the centre park. Once at the beach, you can pay $5 usd for beach chairs with gazebo,…

Reviews Summary
Playas del Este offers a pleasant beach escape from Havana, with clean waters and varied sections from lively to quiet. While transportation can be a challenge due to unreliable buses, the affordable option and the availability of taxis make it accessible. Dining at local spots like Ranchón Don Pepe adds a culinary highlight to the experience.
"It’s a nice, quiet-ish beach. The water is blue, the sand is clean. 20-30min by car from Havana"

"The Santa Maria beach was my favorite. If you are driving there you can find it by the big cement pineapple near the white washed-out bus stop sign. From Havana, the T3 playa bus route will get you there for $5 CUC. The bus attendant will speak at least enough English for you to be assured it is the right place. There is stuff to rent too. Try to go on days with little wind and the waves will be gentle enough for you to wade out into the clear clean water."

"I clearly recommend to go to varadero instead.
It’s a rip off with the bus system (we needed to negotiate our price), and the timing is super unreliable. Waited 1 hr to go there and again more than 2 hours to get back from the beach to town BUT then all the buses were full..needed to take a taxi for 20 dollars..
Besides, the beach is super super crowded and the water is not as nice as Varadero.
Still good though to see it we you do have time. But if you need to decide between varadero & playa del Este: the choice is super easy :)"
