The well-preserved interiors and artifacts are highlights, providing a vivid glimpse into the past. However, some travelers have noted issues with inconsistent opening hours or temporary closures, suggesting it's wise to confirm availability before visiting.

Joscelin Trouwborst

"The Romantic Museum, formerly the Brunet Palace, is located in the heart of the historic center of the city of Trinidad, next to its Plaza Mayor. This mansion, owned by one of the richest families of the colonial era, the counts of Casa Brunet, was completed in 1808 and is currently one of the most visited architectural jewels in Cuba, guardian of abundant relics of the culture of the refined Trinitarian saccharocracy.

History

Construction began in the 18th century, house No. 52 on Cristo Street belonged to several illustrious families of the city. The ground floor dates back to 1740 and was known as the home of the Silva and Álvarez Travieso family until 1807, when it was purchased by José Mariano Borrel y Padrón, who ordered the construction of the upper floor in 1808. Inherited by his daughter, Angela Borrell y Lemus, it was lived in by his family until 1857, the year they left for Spain. The property had several uses until it was acquired by the Pro Trinidad Association in 1945 and, partially restored, it served as the headquarters of this association until 1964, when capital repair work began, to finally be converted into a museum. The Brunet Palace, inaugurated as the Romantic Museum on May 26, 1974, was the first building in the Villa that acquired this institutional character. It houses one of the most valuable collections of decorative arts in Cuba and authentically recreates the city's nineteenth-century atmosphere."
