What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Playa Lagun is a beloved intimate cove known for its clear waters, excellent snorkeling, and stunning sunset views. While some find the beach small and the amenities basic, many appreciate its tranquil atmosphere and vibrant marine life, making it a cherished spot for a relaxed day by the sea.
"Why Lagun Beach is a must-see:
•	🌊 Stunning crystal blue water — perfect for photos and pure relaxation.
•	🏊♂️ Ideal for swimming — calm, clear, and refreshing.
•	🤿 Great spot for snorkeling — lots to explore under the surface, saw many fish and some turtles.
•	🌅 Truly special atmosphere, feels like a hidden paradise.
•	📸 A must-see destination if you’re in the area — unforgettable views and vibes.
You can rent a chair and an umbrella separated, you pay about 8 dollars per chair and you get a free juice from the restaurant nearby.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy the best of the coast!"

"Playa Lagun is a cute little cove. But because it's a cove, it doesn't have a nice stretch of sand (aka lots of room). The sand is also more "gravely" with pebbles, so it's more comfortable to rent chairs/umbrellas. Expensive though, compared to other beaches ($5/chair, $8/umbrella). We thought the cove would be protective from the wind, but the day we went, it was so windy!! It's a nice spot to watch the sunset from. When we were leaving there was a large group of women taking an aerobics class in the water and it was really heartwarming to see. The truck in the parking lot sells really yummy smoothies!"

"Hidden gem.. very peaceful,, free parking and entry.. a few food and drink options, amazing view from the restaurant up top. The chair is a separate price 5$ each and the umbrella 8$ is from another vendor.. but it’s worth it. Our favorite beach on the island, just a chill vibe. Turquoise water, a bit rocky but great snorkeling. This beach is not as crowded as the others, no cruise ship peoples.."

Exploring Playa Lagun's Marine Life
Beyond the usual reef fish, Playa Lagun has been a sighting spot for more impressive marine life. Several videos and reviews mention encounters with sea turtles, southern stingrays, and eagle rays. In a truly remarkable turn of events, there have even been documented sightings of hammerhead sharks near the cove, though these are typically observed further out and are not a cause for alarm for swimmers within the bay.
While many rave about the snorkeling, it's worth noting that some recent reviews suggest that parts of the coral may be experiencing bleaching or damage. However, the overall consensus is that the marine life is still abundant and offers a rewarding experience for underwater enthusiasts. Bringing your own snorkel gear is recommended to ensure comfort and quality, and always remember to practice responsible tourism by not touching the coral or disturbing the marine animals.
The Charm of a Curaçao Cove
The cove's layout means it's less exposed to the open ocean winds, contributing to its calm waters. This makes it particularly appealing for families and less confident swimmers. The sand itself is described as more 'gravelly' with pebbles, which is why many opt to rent chairs and umbrellas for comfort. The surrounding cliffs not only provide a beautiful backdrop but also offer elevated viewpoints, perfect for capturing stunning photographs, especially during the magical sunset hours.
Despite its smaller size, Playa Lagun offers a distinct charm that many visitors cherish. It's often described as a hidden gem and a favorite among locals and those in the know, offering a more authentic and less commercialized beach experience compared to some of the more popular tourist spots. The sense of seclusion and natural beauty is a significant draw for those looking to escape the crowds.
