Reviews Summary

Argaka Beach is praised for its incredible tranquility and stunning sunsets, offering a peaceful escape. While the mixed sand and rock terrain and occasional strong winds are noted, visitors appreciate the uncrowded atmosphere and the unique opportunity to witness sea turtle nesting. The beach is ideal for those seeking a quiet, natural experience.

"The beach is good, with mixed sand and rocks. Beach at the start is all sand then it's mixed in the sea you have about 2m of tiny rocks then it's all sand. It is usually windy and sometimes wind is strong and waves get really big. Beach near Santa Barbara is a little bit rocky so I recommend going around. Also it is forbidden to put up your own umbrella bc of turtle nests ( you can lay it down ). The turtles 🐢 lay their eggs from may to late July and they take 6-8 weeks so come from mid June to late August to try and see them. When they hatch after sunset they go in the sea. Keep in mind that it is not completely sandy but if you remove a few rocks you can easily lay in the sand. The sea is very warm like 30°C in August and july. On the calmer days water is clear but bc of frequent waves it gets dirty. And my favorite sunset in all of Europe I definitely recommend watching it every day. PICTURES ARE TAKEN AT THE IRISH PUB AND GRILL it is more sandy elsewhere"

Danis Morankić

"Lovely beach but you can rarely swim because of high and fast waves all year around, even in the summer."

"The beach is alright, its sandy and stoney but quite narrow. In November it was very quiet, with no one else there. The water was very calm and warm so great for swimming."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Natural Charm of Argaka Beach

Argaka Beach is celebrated for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere, offering a stark contrast to more developed tourist spots. The beach itself is a blend of sand and pebbles, with the sea floor featuring a mix of small rocks before transitioning back to sand. This unique composition means that while some areas might require careful footing, many spots are comfortable for lounging. The beach can be quite narrow, and on windy days, the waves can become impressively large, adding a dramatic element to the scenery. Reddit

One of the most significant aspects of Argaka Beach is its role as a nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles. From May to late July, these ancient creatures lay their eggs, and the hatching period typically lasts 6-8 weeks. Visitors hoping to witness this incredible natural event should plan their trip between mid-June and late August, specifically visiting after sunset when the hatchlings emerge and make their journey to the sea. It's crucial to remember that personal umbrellas are prohibited to protect these vulnerable nests; however, laying down your umbrella or mat is permitted. InstagramReddit

Beyond the turtles, Argaka Beach is renowned for its spectacular sunsets. Many visitors describe them as the best in Europe, with the sky erupting in a symphony of colors over the Mediterranean. The beach's relatively undeveloped nature means you can often enjoy these breathtaking views with very few other people around, making for a truly serene and memorable experience. Reddit

Exploring the Argaka Coastline

While Argaka Beach itself offers a peaceful retreat, the surrounding coastline and nearby areas provide further opportunities for exploration. The Limni pier, once a picturesque spot, has unfortunately been damaged and is currently closed, awaiting repairs. This means visitors should focus their attention on other scenic parts of the beach and its environs. Instagram

For those seeking a slightly different beach experience, Mavralis Beach is highlighted as a hidden gem. This secluded spot is nestled amongst trees, offering a more intimate and peaceful escape. It's a place to truly appreciate the natural beauty of the region and find a quiet corner away from any potential breeze. Instagram

The Argaka area is best explored with a sense of adventure and a willingness to discover its quieter charms. While direct amenities on the beach are limited, the nearby town of Polis offers a wider range of dining and shopping options. Renting a car is highly recommended for those who wish to fully immerse themselves in the local landscape, visit neighboring villages, and discover other coastal treasures at their own pace.
