What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fig Tree Bay is celebrated for its stunningly clear, shallow waters and picturesque setting, making it ideal for swimming and families. However, its popularity means it can get very crowded, and some visitors have encountered issues with sunbed staff. Despite this, the beautiful scenery and convenient amenities make it a worthwhile visit for many.
"This is a busy tourist beach.
A narrow strip of as sand 4 rows of sunbeds deep. Lots of hotels front onto it. There are numerous boat trips and excursions. Restaurants and good amenities. The water is shallow along way out and you can easily swim to the island.
Serves a purpose but not our favourite as a short walk up the coast are much quieter less touristy spots."

"Unreal. Never seen anything like this. Water was SO clear it felt like it was a pool. Just a little busy but I feel like that was just fine."
Tina
"We went to Fig Tree Bay Beach at the beginning of September, hoping to spend a nice day with our guests who had just arrived. At first, everything was great. We found four sunbeds and started to enjoy our time.
But things quickly changed when a very rude and arrogant sunbed worker named Adamus came over. Without saying hello or explaining anything nicely, he started yelling at us. He said only three sunbeds were allowed under one umbrella and that we had to return one right away. We were shocked. No one had told us about this rule before, and the way he spoke to us was completely disrespectful.
Other people around us were clearly uncomfortable and surprised by how badly we were treated. What was supposed to be a calm and happy day turned into a stressful and upsetting experience.
We are not going back, and we will not recommend this beach to anyone. The place is beautiful, but the way they treat guests is terrible. Adamus’s rude behavior ruined everything."

Understanding the Beach Experience
While the natural beauty is undeniable, it's important to note that Fig Tree Bay can get very busy, especially during peak summer months. This means it can feel crowded, and securing a prime spot on the sand or a sunbed might require an early start. Some visitors have noted that while the beach itself is beautiful, the surrounding area is developed with hotels and amenities, which might detract from a more secluded, natural feel for some.
Despite the crowds, the beach's amenities, including numerous cafes, restaurants, and water sports operators, ensure a convenient and enjoyable experience for most visitors. The coastal promenade running alongside the bay is perfect for leisurely strolls, offering lovely sea views and connecting to other parts of Protaras.
Navigating Sunbed Rentals and Beach Etiquette
While the beach is generally accommodating, respecting fellow beachgoers is key. Keep noise levels reasonable and be mindful of personal space, especially when the beach is crowded. Bringing your own beach towels, snacks, and drinks is also a good idea to enhance your comfort and manage costs. Remember that the beach is public, so while rentals are available, you are also welcome to bring your own equipment.
For those seeking a quieter experience, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (May-June, September-October) or arriving very early in the morning. Exploring the coastline a short walk away can also lead to less crowded coves and beaches.
