"The Painted Cellar in Šatov is an interesting destination that will entertain even children. The cellar was painted by Maxmillian Appeltauer over 34 years. For the first 8 years, he painted with both hands, then he went to war and returned without his left hand. He continued to paint with one hand with candles on his hat. Electricity was only installed for the last 4 years. At first, he had to paint swastikas and then he had to repaint them with the symbols of the JZD. The paintings are not of any historical value, they are more like an interesting object in sandstone. The cellar was never used for wine production or storage, it was always intended for sitting. Nice place, tours every hour (summer 2025)."
