What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the stunning natural beauty of the gorge and the unique hiking experience, often describing the trails as challenging yet rewarding. However, many feel the boat tours are overpriced for their short duration and that ticket availability is a significant issue, leading to disappointment for those who can't secure them.
"I give it 3 stars because the hiking trail down to the river is a great experience. However, the boat trip was a huge let down. A boat that will only take you round a very small part of the river. The boat was promoted in the tours as some sort of 'gondola' but in reality we were just packed all together in one single boat. You cannot truly enjoy the ride in such a large group, and impossible to take good photos while in the boat. And the worst thing? You get to climb up back from where you came.
The short hiking trail may be challenging in wet conditions. But it is a splendid experience. The boat, not so much."

"The path to the boats is marked green, but the route is definitely more challenging. It is quite steep and like walking up stairs all the way. The boats are very overpriced. They charge a lot of money just for 15 minutes. I do not recommend it, it is not interesting at all.. 🙄"

"Since part of the gorge was closed, it made us confused at the beginning about how to visit here. Later, we found out that we were supposed to come to the Wild Gorge.
You can park a car at Mezná, but make sure to be there early as it was full when we arrived (we travelled during a long holiday). We parked our car at the Mezní Louka / Rainwiese Parking Lot and then continued walking to the gorge from there.
It rained during the night, so the path was a bit slippery in some parts when we visited. The nature is still very nice and it’s quite quiet. Make sure you have enough water and some snacks with you, as some might need a lot of breaks due to the steepness — especially on the way back from the gorge to the village.
We were with a boat tour guide who couldn’t speak any English, so it was useless for us. But we still really enjoyed the quiet and beautiful nature that we saw."

Navigating the Gorges: Edmund vs. Wild
Wild Gorge provides a shorter, approximately 10-minute boat ride. While less extensive than Edmund Gorge, it offers its own unique charm and is often accessible even when Edmund Gorge might be partially closed due to weather. Accessing Wild Gorge directly is possible via the Mezní Louka parking lot, making it a viable option if ticket availability for Edmund Gorge is an issue.
Both gorges require careful planning regarding tickets, which are limited and can sell out quickly. Understanding the access points and potential closures is key to a successful visit.
The Hiking Experience: Steep but Rewarding
While challenging, the hikes offer breathtaking views of the gorge's vegetation-covered cliffs and the river below. The effort is often rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and stunning natural beauty. It's advisable to carry water and snacks, as the steepness can require frequent breaks.
For families, the initial walk to Edmund Gorge is generally considered child-friendly, though not stroller-accessible. The subsequent trails can be more demanding for younger children. Always check trail conditions, especially after inclement weather, as rangers may close sections for safety.
Ticket Acquisition: A Crucial Step
Many visitors strongly recommend purchasing tickets the day before your intended visit to avoid disappointment. There is no online booking system, adding to the urgency of obtaining them in person. Arriving very early in the morning on the day of your visit is another strategy, but even then, tickets may be gone.
Be aware that tickets are time-specific. Arriving with tickets for an earlier time than your current arrival will prevent you from boarding. Having cash on hand is also advised, as it can simplify transactions and is sometimes preferred.
