What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Klementinum's stunning Baroque Library and the breathtaking views from the Astronomical Tower. The historical significance and architectural beauty are major draws. However, some find the tours to be brief and wish for more time to explore independently.
"Klementinum | Baroque Library & Astronomical Tower
I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for historic places, but my experience at the Klementinum was genuinely disappointing and honestly frustrating. I expected something meaningful and memorable, but instead I walked away feeling rushed, unwelcome, and overcharged.
Some of the staff were surprisingly rude — not just brusque, but genuinely dismissive. Even something as simple as asking to use the bathroom was shut down. As a visitor who paid full price and came with excitement, being treated this way felt very disrespectful.
The tour itself is extremely over-priced for what you actually see. You get about 2–3 minutes inside the Baroque Library, and you can’t even take proper photos. The guide kept repeating the same points as if trying to stretch the tour, but the entire experience is barely 10 minutes. The stairways are unbelievably tiny and you feel rushed the whole time, being pushed through the spaces rather than allowed to enjoy them.
I left feeling like the experience was more about taking money than sharing history. For such a famous site, I expected care, hospitality, and a real connection to the heritage. Instead, it felt commercial, hurried, and disappointing.
Honestly, you can find beautiful photos and videos online that show you the same thing — maybe even better. If you’re expecting a meaningful cultural experience, this is not it. I don’t recommend it, and I hope the management considers improving both staff attitude and the quality of the tour."

"This is a must see for anyone who loves books, astronomy, and history! As an added bonus, at the end of this tour, you get to climb the astronomical tower with spectacular panoramic views of the city! You can book a 45-minute tour the same day or earlier at the main office at the entrance of the building. A word of caution: the tour requires climbing quite a few narrow spiral staircases and vertical ladders so if you’re not in the best shape or have fear of heights, you may want to skip. Alternatively, you can see the library and then walk back down instead of climbing all the way to the top."
