What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Michal Mine for its authentic industrial atmosphere and well-preserved surface facilities, highlighting the impressive machinery and the passionate tour guides. However, the primary reliance on Czech language for tours, even with English audio guides, can detract from the experience for non-Czech speakers, leading to a less comprehensive understanding of the detailed narratives shared.
"Great place to visit. Touring only in Czech language (they have tourist guides in the form of a few printed A4 pages with descriptions in other languages, f.e. Polish, English).
Despite that, the tour guide was the nicest guy I've ever met. He tried to pass us all the information about the mine and be as close to my language (Polish) as possible so the tour was in mixed Chech-Silesian-Polish language.
In the mine you'll see everything that's above the ground. Places where miners were starting work, changing clothes, offices, machine rooms, etc. There's no going underground. The tour is so interesting and has so many things to show that 1,5 hours of trip is too short. Tickets are sold 15 mins before the trip starts but in the meantime you can eat and drink some beer in mine's restaurant. Also the toilets are very clean."

"5 stars for amazing tour guide, nice atmosphere and incredible exhibition. Opening hours in Google Maps are different than in the original website."

"Cool place to learn something about the history of Ostrava and mining. Unfortunately the tour guide only spoke Czech. We did get an English audio tour and a document that seemed google-translated. But the English information was far less than the information the tourguide was telling. The whole tour took about 2 hours, but the audio tour maybe only one hour. So a lot of the time you're just standing around waiting for the tour guide to be done because you can't understand the language.
So wouldn't recommend the tour, but the buildings and mining equipment are really cool to see!"
