Reviews Summary

Prague's public transport is widely praised for its efficiency, affordability, and ease of use, with many travelers highlighting the convenience of the PID Litačka app and the scenic tram routes. However, some reviews mention concerns about driver professionalism and safety when using private transfer services, which are distinct from the public transport system.

"Easy transfer from airport. Driver was waiting for pick up despite delayed flight and long queue at passport control. Good communication from driver via WhatsApp.

Free walking tour was excellent. Janna our guide was brilliant, very knowledgable and it was a wonderful extra. Highly recommend using the free walking tour voucher."

Claire Mackenzie

"We booked this service expecting safe and reliable transportation, but unfortunately our experience was the opposite. The driver repeatedly used his phone while driving, texting and scrolling instead of focusing on the road. This is not only unprofessional, but also illegal in the Czech Republic and across the EU.

On top of that, he failed to keep a safe distance from other vehicles multiple times, making the ride feel unsafe. When we arrived at the airport, he was so distracted by his phone that he didn’t even bother to assist with the seat or show basic customer care.

For the price we paid, we expected professionalism and safety – not a careless driver more concerned with his phone than with his passengers."

Martin Potestas

"Very efficient and friendly service, best airport transfer service we have ever used anywhere"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Navigating Prague's Public Transport System

Prague boasts an efficient and integrated public transport network, managed by DPP (Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy). It includes trams, metro, buses, and even ferries. The system is renowned for its punctuality and extensive coverage, making it easy to explore the city and its surroundings. Travelers often praise its affordability and ease of use, especially with the help of modern apps. TikTok+2

Key components of the system include:

* Trams: The most iconic mode of transport, offering scenic routes through historic neighborhoods. Tram 22 is famous for passing by Prague Castle, while the vintage Tram 42 provides a nostalgic journey. TikTok
* Metro: Consists of three lines (A, B, C) that efficiently connect major parts of the city. It's the fastest way to cover longer distances. TikTok+1
* Buses: Complement the tram and metro network, reaching areas further afield and serving as crucial links, especially from Prague Airport. TikTok

Understanding the ticketing system is crucial for a smooth experience. Tickets are time-based and valid across all modes of transport within their validity period. Remember to validate your ticket upon boarding to avoid fines. TikTok+1

Ticketing and Fares in Prague

Prague's public transport operates on a time-based ticketing system. You purchase a ticket for a specific duration (e.g., 30 minutes, 90 minutes, 24 hours, 72 hours), and it's valid for unlimited travel on all public transport modes within that time frame. This makes it incredibly convenient for tourists who want to hop between attractions. TikTok+1

Purchasing Tickets:

* PID Litačka App: The most recommended method for buying tickets digitally. It's free, allows you to plan journeys, and store tickets on your phone. TikTokReddit
* Ticket Machines: Available at metro stations and some tram stops. They usually accept cash and cards. TikTok
* Onboard (Limited): Some trams have machines, but it's not always guaranteed, and they might be more expensive. It's best to buy in advance. TikTok

Validation is Key: Once you have your ticket, you must validate it in the yellow machines located on trams and at the entrance to metro platforms. This stamps your ticket with the time and date. Unvalidated tickets are considered invalid, and you risk a hefty fine if checked by inspectors. TikTok+1

Exploring Prague with Kids

Prague's public transport is generally family-friendly. Children under 6 often travel for free, and there are options for discounted tickets or passes for older children. The trams, especially the vintage ones, can be a fun adventure for kids. TikTok

Tips for Families:

* Plan your routes: Use the PID Litačka app or Google Maps to find the most direct and least crowded routes. TikTok
* Consider multi-day passes: If you plan on extensive sightseeing, a 24-hour or 72-hour pass can be cost-effective and allow for spontaneous trips. TikTok
* Stroller accessibility: While newer trams and metro stations are generally accessible, older parts of the system might be challenging with strollers. Be prepared for stairs in some metro stations. TikTok

Many attractions are also easily accessible via public transport, making it a convenient way to navigate the city with your family. The novelty of riding trams and the metro can add an extra layer of excitement to your trip. TikTok
