The unique blend of powerful sculptures, striking architecture, and beautiful natural landscapes is consistently praised. While some find the museum collection itself small, the overall experience of exploring the art and the surrounding park is highly recommended.

"Truly breathtaking sculpture museum, 1h north of Copenhagen. This space is so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. The temporary exhibition Rainbow Tornado was a fun complement to Tegner’s sculptures. The surrounding landscapes are beautiful to see as well. A must-visit!"

Victor Bao

"We visited this museum and its sculpture park in the heather fields of northern Själland a Sunday afternoon mid August of 2025 together with a large number of others interested in this iconic Danish sculptor. The museum building in raw concrete was conceived and built by Tegner and his wife in the 1930-s, and the two of them are buried under two of the sculptures in the main hall of the building. It's an amazing place that also incorporates temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists, when we visited, the young and very popular Esben Weile Kjær.
Enjoy what we shot!"

"Beautiful Museum and extraordinary amazing sculptures both outside and inside."

Rudolph Tegner: The Artist and His Vision

Rudolph Tegner (1873-1950) was a prominent Danish sculptor known for his monumental and often dramatic works. He was not only an artist but also an architect, deeply involved in the design and construction of his own museum. He discovered the area in Dronningmølle in 1916 and was so captivated by the landscape that he purchased land and began placing his sculptures there, creating the beginnings of the statue park. Instagram

The museum building itself, a stark, raw concrete structure, was conceived and built by Tegner and his wife between 1937 and 1938. It was designed to house his extensive collection of works and serve as a lasting monument to his artistic legacy. Tegner and his wife are even buried beneath two of the sculptures in the main hall, a testament to their profound connection to the space. Reddit

Today, the Rudolph Tegner Museum and Statue Park continues to showcase his powerful sculptures while also engaging with contemporary art through special exhibitions, creating a dialogue between past and present artistic expressions. Instagram

Exploring the Statue Park

The Statue Park is an integral part of the Rudolph Tegner experience, offering a unique setting for his monumental sculptures. Spread across the natural landscape, including heather fields, the park invites visitors to wander and discover Tegner's works amidst nature. The placement of each sculpture is deliberate, creating a powerful visual dialogue with its surroundings. Instagram

Visitors often describe the park as breathtaking and a beautiful area to explore. The combination of art and nature provides a serene yet impactful experience. It's recommended to wear comfortable shoes as you'll be walking quite a bit to see all the pieces. The park is particularly stunning during the warmer months when the heather is in bloom. Beyond Tegner's own creations, the park's natural beauty is a significant draw. It offers a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with both art and the Danish countryside. The expansive grounds mean that even during busier times, you can often find quieter spots to appreciate the art and scenery. Reddit

Contemporary Art at Rudolph Tegner

While Rudolph Tegner's sculptures are the primary focus, the museum actively engages with contemporary art through its special exhibitions. These exhibitions create a fascinating contrast and conversation with Tegner's classic works, offering visitors a broader artistic perspective. Instagram

Past exhibitions have featured notable contemporary artists, such as Cathrine Raben Davidsen and Esben Weile Kjær. These collaborations highlight the museum's commitment to showcasing how modern artists interpret and respond to the legacy of Tegner and the unique environment of the museum and park.
