What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary

The preserved old townhouses and engaging local history exhibits are highlights, though some find the layout confusing and wish for more translations. Seasonal events like the Christmas market are particularly well-loved.
"It's a nice place. The museum encompasses multiple buildings which create a good atmosphere. The permanent exhibition are a bit confused, however. Interesting at times, but shallow at others and always unstructured. Exception when I was there was the temporary exhibition on the sculptor Nielsen. My entry was free as I visited the museum on the composer Nielsen beforehand."

"Anna Marie Carl Nielsen’s exhibit was really great! You get to walk through her life and look at how she started with sculpture of animals. She captures the movement of animals really well as she grew up on the farm. Her sculpture of the memorial for WW2 as well as the death mask for her husband were exquisite. She is able to convey the emotions of grief through the positions and body language of her subject, so you can feel the art without even looking at the expression on the faces of the sculpture. Loved the storytelling as well which gave us a glimpse into her love for her husband Carl Nielsen.
The storytelling in the lower floors on the history of Odense was a bit haphazard. The exhibit was not really chronologically laid by a timeline, so it was hard to follow and felt more like bits and pieces of fun facts.
The staff were super nice in giving us a discount because we went to the Hans Christian Andersen museum prior to coming here!"
