Its proximity to Cuenca and easy, well-maintained trails make it perfect for picnics and relaxed nature walks. Some note it's less visited than other Cajas spots, offering a quieter experience.
"This is an amazing section of the park situated between mountain peaks. The views are spectacular! Birds are abundant and varied. We saw hummingbirds on nest only a few feet from the trail. The trail is an easy walk. You will want to take your time here."

"There aren't enough superlatives to describe this valley lake. The lowest lake in the Cajas National Park but still above three thousand meters!"
Paul DePesa (RadPal)
"This is a good place to go and hike. It's super close to Cuenca and not as far as Cajas, even though it is officially still Cajas. It's not the normal place people go to see Cajas. Once you turn off the main road there are several bumpy roads to take before you get to the Ranger Station. It's like a check in point. I didn't see that you have to pay anything. I was there on a field trip with my kid. It was a beautiful hike around the lake. We saw an Andean Tucán! I really like the wooden planks they had pretty much the whole way around so it wasn't too muddy. There is a beautiful wooden bridge on the far side of the lake that is good for a lunch spot. We saw a man fishing and few people with professional cameras, but other than that there were no other people. Nice quiet place to enjoy nature!"
