Is it “ethical” to go to Galápagos Islands?

I hate using the word “ethical” because it sounds so overly self-righteous, but I’ve heard many people choosing not to go to Galápagos Islands because over tourism is really taking a toll on the ecosystem. I’m just looking for guidance or any scientific publications that are…

Which 2 out of the three islands do you recommend - Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela?

Hi - I’m planning a land based trip. We know we want to see cool snorkeling wildlife and will for sure pick Isabela as one of our two islands to visit. We don’t mind paying the premium for a charter flight from San Cristobal to Isabela so don’t mind the travel time / price when…

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the San Cristobal Interpretation Center to be a highly informative and valuable stop, especially given its free admission. It offers a great overview of the islands' history, geology, and ecology, and serves as a gateway to scenic trails and abundant sea lion sightings on the adjacent beach. Some note the lack of air conditioning, but overall, it's considered a worthwhile and enriching experience.

"It’s a really nice interpretation center. There is a lot of information and history of the islands. I really recommend visiting. They have a beautiful beach where you can see many sea lions: baby’s, young, old ones."

"This was a very interesting museum, describing the history of the Galapagos islands. It was a nice stop prior to getting on our flight back home. It talked a little bit about the people who influenced the islands, some of the legends, some of the geology, and then some of the future. Definitely worth a visit, if you have the time."

Jim C

"This center doesn't seem to draw the crowd that it should! It's the entry to the Tijeritas trails and overlooks, plus it provides a great appreciation for the islands flora, fauna, and history. It feels like an American National Park visitors center but without air conditioning. There are multiple buildings each with their own features. Restrooms are available and staff speaks English. It's not a far or hard walk from town."
