"No bells and whistles however, it is a marvel of engineering. There was a peddler on a boat wich we thought we would hit and sink, luckily not, he tried to sell us stuff yelling :Hello pretty lady: it was very entertaining"

"A unique experience of a special lock gate where the height of the vessels are adjusted according to the height of the river stream for the next phase of the journey.
Our ship was travelling in the higher stream from Aswan. Here it was taken into the passgaeway, locked from both ends, water pumped out from the locked passage-way thereby reducing the level of water from high to low in flush with the actual level of water in the river after the dam. Thereafter the gate was opened and our vessel sailed by in the lower river.
All the ships sailing were brought down to lower height one by one and naturally it took a lot of time to pass the ships one by one. Similarly the water level of ships from Luxor, sailing to Aswan were increased and then released for sailing.
All ships arrive here and wait for a long time for their turn to pass the gate one by one. The total time may cross 2/ 3 hours or more depending on traffic. However, one can enjoy the scenic beauty and this technological process of adjusting the height of the ship.
Another unique experience is local peddlers / hawkers selling their merchandise, mainly garments etc in boats. The travel around the standing ships, through the item wrapped in plastic bags from boat in the ship with precise aim. Once price is set after bargaining, the customers are advised to throw the packets with money inside to the peddlers in boat. In case any packet falls in the river accidentally, it is recovered by them dry as they are wrapped in plastic.
Enjoyed couple of hours here."

"A unique experience at the Nile river cruise. The lock is used to lower the ship’s from dam to the river and raise the ship’s from river to up to the dam. A very safe and smooth operation takes around 10 - 15 minutes."
