The Mustapha Kamel catacombs in Alexandria form a complex of eight tombs. These images are of Tomb 1 which is the best preserved of those on site. The tomb dates to the mid 3rd century BC and is decorated in an unusual mixture of both Greek and Egyptian styles. The south facade, seen in photograph 1, has an entrance flanked by four sphinxes. Reviews Summary

Reviews for the Mustafa Kamel Necropolis are mixed, with some visitors finding it a fascinating and unique historical site, while others express disappointment with its maintenance and accessibility. The blend of Greek and Egyptian art is often praised, but the limited preservation of some tombs and the difficulty in finding the location are common drawbacks.

"Mustafa Kamel catacombs are one of the least known attractions of Alexandria, the site dates back to the Hellenistic Period and it was discovered by accident!

The catacombs were discovered by accident in 1930s by an Italian archaeologist, the total number of the catacombs accessible is 4, the first 2 are in good shape but the 3rd and 4th catacombs were totally wiped out you can barely see anything.

The site itself is not in the best shape and not well maintained as well, it wasn’t something special at all and overall a boring experience, i wouldn’t recommend coming all the way for it, the catacombs of Kom el-Shaqafa are a thousand times better."

Abdulrahman Qazzaz

"Almost impossible to find. As no Egyptian knows about it. It's in the middle of the city surrounded by condominiums. From 4 tombs can visit 3. The best one is either 1 or 2. The others are to destroyed for seeing anything interesting. For some stupid reason (maybe estate secret) can't take photos inside the tumbs. It's not worth the visit."

Luis Ampuero

"More than 22 centuries of greatness. I fell in love with it! A must-visited spot with no doubt!"

Navigating the Necropolis: What to Expect

The Mustafa Kamel Necropolis is a complex of eight tombs carved directly into the rock. However, not all are easily accessible or well-preserved. The experience is intimate and less crowded than major tourist sites, offering a more personal connection with history. However, the lack of extensive signage and the potential for restricted photography mean visitors should come prepared to observe and absorb the atmosphere. Reddit
