Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Saint Catherine's Monastery for its profound historical and spiritual significance, calling it one of the holiest Christian sites. The ancient library, priceless icons, and the legendary Burning Bush are highlights. However, many note the extremely limited opening hours and the potential for restricted access to certain areas, which can be frustrating.

"St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai is one of the holiest and most historically significant Christian sites in the world. It is the oldest continuously operating Christian monastery, founded in the 6th century by order of Emperor Justinian. This sacred place is where the Burning Bush is believed to have stood when God spoke to Moses. The atmosphere is serene, deeply spiritual, and awe-inspiring. The monks are welcoming, and inside the monastery are invaluable icons and ancient manuscripts. Nearby, pilgrims often climb Mount Sinai at dawn for a breathtaking sunrise. Visiting St. Catherine’s Monastery is not just a journey through history, but a powerful and soul-touching experience."

"A hidden marvel. The monastery opens only for one hour per day and limits the access to the Burning Bush, the church and the well. There's also a collection of old icons but it was closed on the day of our visit. There is also a small shop with icons, candles and so on. We could take pictures everywhere except for the church. Combined with climbing Sinai mountain, the monastery is a one the rare and unique experiences worth doing."

Edward Sazonov

"The world's oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery tells the tale of the whole world, not only christians. The monastery was built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, enclosing what is claimed to be the burning bush seen by Moses. Centuries later, the believed body of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, was taken to the monastery. Ages of history and religion, all in one place. This is a must!"
