What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tamanique Waterfalls is a highly recommended natural gem in El Salvador, praised for its stunning cascades and refreshing swimming spots. While the hike is often described as strenuous and requires a mandatory guide, visitors find the effort well worth the breathtaking scenery and the chance to cool off in the natural pools. The experience is considered a highlight by many travelers.
"Before you enter the park, you must register two blocks away at the green building.
It’s $8 per person for a group tour or $25 for a private tour (2 ppl at least for me). You can drive into the park and leave your vehicle however the road is rocky. We left it just before the typical area because I was scared of damaging my rental. Our tour guide mentioned during rainy season they don’t bother fixing the road because it washes away but during non-rain season the road into the park is better conditions.
Our tour guide Pedro was great. He provided us with walking sticks, advised areas he thought may be too strenuous for 1 person in our group, and gave us good info overall.
The hike was not difficult for me, however if you do not regularly workout or walk on an incline it can be difficult. I wore some of the barefoot style water shoes as it has traction for hiking and water and they worked, friend wore waterproof sandals. Either work. The waterfall was refreshing and nice."

"It’s very beautiful. it’s a 45 min hike so prepare for the long walk. i wouldn’t recommend bringing sandles or flip flops. i went when it was raining so just wear shoes you don’t really care about."

"The beginning of pulling in is kinda sketchy. You don’t know who to trust or what to do. You will be approached by multiple guides to try and take you on it. You must go into the office sign up and register. It’s $8.00 per person half goes to the city the other half split among the guides or guide. There is a police officer in the office that does the paper work but you can’t pay him you gotta pay the tour guide so just deal with them and save your self the trouble. The parking is in front for two dollars but I recommend you drive down the rocky brick road. Start the hike there because if not, you gotta walk through the town down the road through the brick path to start in the jungle. Trust me you’ll want to have been parked there once you make it back up. The hike down is chill not hard at all but you may slip, if you slip throw your self best suggestion. It will be muddy slimy and insects everywhere. I recommend no one takes any backpacks with items in it because on the way back up the hike it is really really hard due to being tired and the elevation especially if you go down the one that is very steep falls number four. But believe me when I tell you, it is worth the hike. It is very beautiful at the fall and refreshing. If you jump in, don’t mind the muddy water. It is just from the rapids waters. It is very refreshing rejuvenating and worth the experience. Once you get to the top you will be exhausted, especially if you have a backpack. The guide who gave us the tour was amazing and very sweet. He actually took two of our backpacks for the ladies so they wouldn’t have to carry it. The guy had a total of three backpacks and he was up and down the mountain like nothing. So make sure to tip him if he’s gonna carry your bags don’t be a jerk because you payed the fee. The Red Cross is in town if needed. So if you get rescued because you twisted your ankle and wasn’t able to get back up, make sure you make a generous donation to the Red Cross because they are not an organization that is being paid. They work off contributions."
