Tallinna muuseumipühapäev 2022 Не знала что за 2 евро можно попасть в эту петлю времени. Которая переносит в 16 век. Где всё архаично и прекрасно. #oldarchitecture #museum #tallinn

I ended up at this building on accident. It’s a little hidden off the main road but I saw the mannequin from a distance and was intrigued. I love the old stone AND they don’t do tickets but postcards which are the souvenir I get everywhere I go so that was also super cool. #dominicanmonastery #tallinnoldtown #hiddengem #tallinn #visitestonia #travelgram #monastery #middleages #medievalarchitectur...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Dominican Monastery Claustrum as a remarkably preserved piece of medieval history, offering a peaceful and atmospheric escape. Its affordability and the chance to step back in time are frequently praised, though some note that it's a smaller site and can be combined with nearby attractions for a fuller experience.

"This is a really cool convent. It is in a courtyard and in the basement. It is from the medieval ages so the door mechanism was the pulley system. Very cool to see and experience."

C Neon

"The Dominican Convent Museum (founded in 1246) is one of Tallinn’s most historically significant landmarks, and a visit here feels like stepping into a time capsule of medieval life. Located just a short walk from the Viru Gates, it’s easy to find yet still feels peacefully tucked away from the busier tourist spots.

The architecture and atmosphere of the convent are absolutely stunning. You’re surrounded by original stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and narrow hallways that instantly transport you back to the 13th and 14th centuries, when Tallinn was a growing and prosperous city. This was one of the earliest and most important religious and intellectual centers in the city, and it really shows.

The clausure, or inner cloister, holds some of the most important rooms in the building — former sacristy, vestry, dormitories, and more — all beautifully preserved. You can walk through areas once used by monks and noble leaders, including the Old Capital Hall, where important gatherings like the meetings of the Harju and Virumaa knighthoods were held in the 14th and 15th centuries.

One of the earliest libraries in Tallinn was also housed here, adding to the convent’s deep scholarly roots. Throughout the museum, there’s an impressive collection of medieval and Renaissance art and artifacts — be sure to check out the stone carvings and tombstones, which are remarkably detailed. A highlight is the relief of an angel set in a triangle, a piece attributed to Arendt Passer, one of the most renowned stone masons of the region (he also designed monuments in Tallinn Cathedral, including for Pontus de la Gardie).

After touring the museum, don’t miss Catherine’s Passage, the narrow alley just south of the monastery. It’s one of the most picturesque streets in Old Town, and the stone wall lining it is actually a surviving part of the original monastery structure — a perfect place to reflect on everything you just saw.

This museum is a must for history lovers, architecture buffs, or anyone who wants a deeper understanding of Tallinn’s rich medieval past. Quiet, powerful, and incredibly well preserved — highly recommended."

"While this place was interesting, the little art gallery right beside it and down the stairs was amazing to see."
