What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the incredible value and breathtaking panoramic views from Hellemann Tower and the Town Wall Walkway. It's praised as a must-see for its historical significance and unique perspective on Tallinn's Old Town. However, the steep, uneven stairs and cash-only policy are noted drawbacks for some.
"If you're visiting Tallinn, Hellemann Tower and the Town Wall Walkway is an absolute must-see. We visited during a one-day stop from a cruise, and this ended up being one of our favorite experiences in the city.
Climbing the tower and walking along the preserved medieval wall gives you a truly unique perspective of Tallinn’s stunning Old Town. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking — you get to look out over the red rooftops, church spires, and cobblestone streets in every direction. It’s also one of the best spots to really appreciate the layout and charm of the walled city from above. Definitely bring your camera — the photo opportunities are incredible!
The tower itself is well maintained, and the narrow, slightly uneven stone steps add to the authentic medieval feel. The walkway stretches a good distance along the wall and connects a few different towers, with information panels along the way that offer some historical insight.
It's not overly crowded (especially in the morning), and it’s very reasonably priced — making it one of the best value attractions in Tallinn. If you’re up for a bit of a climb, the panoramic views alone make it more than worth it.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to soak in the atmosphere, history, and unmatched views of one of Europe’s most charming medieval cities!"

"Construction of the tower and walkways began in the fourteenth century and ended some three hundred years later. All these years later, we can still climb the tower and wander the walkways.
Entry is very cheap, but cash only. It is not possible to buy tickets in advance.
The first set of stairs is modern, but further up, you are walking the original stairs. These are narrow, steep, and uneven.
Views are not great. As the city has modernised around the medieval section, it has become hemmed in.
There is no disabled access due to the age of the building."

"This place is amazing.
Entrance fee is €4 per person, and it’s totally worth it. Once you go up the stairs you have access to the top of the wall which gives you access to a great view of the city.
Also, you have the option to explore the interior of the wall which has rooms with old pictures of Tallinn. Staff did not speak English when I visited, but they are nice to you. Many restaurants and bars around as well."
